Industrial Visit to the 110 kV/ 33 kV Transmission Substation

FAMT organized an Industrial Visit for Third Year Electrical Engineering students to the 110/33 kV MSETCL Transmission Substation, Kuvarbaon, Ratnagiri, as a part of the Power System Protection and Switchgear Laboratory curriculum. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to high-voltage power transmission systems, substation operations, and modern protection mechanisms used in the electrical power sector.

During the visit, Shri Ashutosh Tambe, Deputy Executive Engineer, MSETCL, along with other officials, explained the Single Line Diagram (SLD) of the 110/33 kV substation and demonstrated the functioning of major substation equipment, including Lightning Arresters (LA), Circuit Breakers (CB), Current Transformers (CT), Potential Transformers (PT), Isolators, PLCC systems, busbars, power transformers, and control panels. Students also learned about transmission line conductors, protection relays, coordination schemes, switchgear operations, interlocking mechanisms, SCADA systems, and the safety and maintenance practices followed in high-voltage substations.

A total of 65 students and two faculty members participated in the industrial visit. The programme provided valuable industry exposure by connecting theoretical concepts with real-world applications, enhancing students’ understanding of power system protection, switchgear operations, and the safe and reliable operation of electrical transmission networks.
