Silent Digital Extortion Threat

An expert session on “Ransomware Insights: The Silent Digital Extortion Threat” was organized by Finolex Academy of Management and Technology, Ratnagiri. The session aimed to raise awareness among students about ransomware attacks, industry trends, essential tools, and career opportunities in the cybersecurity domain.

Mr. Akshay Lad, an alumnus of the Electronics Engineering Department (2012 Batch) and currently Lead Cyber Security Engineer at RB Global, served as the resource person. Drawing on his 10 years of experience in cybersecurity, he explained the fundamentals of ransomware attacks, including common entry points like phishing emails and malicious links, and their potential impact on individuals, organizations, and critical infrastructure. Real-world examples were shared to illustrate data loss, financial damage, and operational disruptions caused by such attacks.

The session also covered emerging cybersecurity trends, the growing demand for skilled professionals, and the importance of cybersecurity across sectors such as IT, banking, healthcare, and government. Career paths including security analyst, penetration tester, SOC analyst, cyber forensics expert, and ethical hacker were highlighted, inspiring students to explore opportunities in this high-demand domain. A total of 48 students attended and actively participated, showing keen interest in cybersecurity concepts and careers.
