On 24 January 2026, final-year Electrical Engineering students of FAMT had the opportunity to visit M/s T. J. Marine Products Pvt. Ltd., Ratnagiri. A group of 27 students, accompanied by a faculty and a staff member, participated in this insightful industrial visit.
The visit began with an introductory session by Shri Vikrant Pawar, Production Manager, who provided an overview of the company, its product range, and the scale of operations. This was followed by a technical session by Shri Ashish Kolekar, FAMT alumnus and Assistant Manager at the company, who explained the electrical facilities and infrastructure of the plant.
To facilitate hands-on learning, students were divided into four groups, each guided by a dedicated trainer. During the visit, students explored:
- Indoor transformers – constructional parts, substation metering, and protection schemes.
- Diesel Generator (DG) set – operation and protection systems.
- Protection and measuring devices – MCBs, MCCBs, relays, SMPS, multimeters, tong testers, and their industrial applications.
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) – role in motor speed control.
- Motor testing and rewinding – with an open demonstration of squirrel cage induction motors.
- SCADA-based plant control, cables, cable trays, glands, lugs, and their practical applications.
- Power Control Centre (PCC) and internal power distribution, including On Load Tap Changer (OLTC) operation.
- Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panel – functioning and benefits.
- Energy Management System (EMS) – monitoring and improving energy efficiency.
The visit concluded with a Q&A session, where Shri Ashish Kolekar addressed all student queries, providing valuable insights into industrial electrical practices.
This visit provided students with practical exposure to modern electrical systems, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial applications.
