The session commenced with Prof. Supriya S. Surve introducing the distinguished resource person, Dr Akshay Phatak — a respected Police Mitra and businessman from Ratnagiri. Dr. Phatak is well-known for his work in Cybercrime and Ethical Hacking and is committed to raising awareness about cyber safety among students and the broader community.
Dr. Phatak provided insightful guidance on protecting systems against scams, cyber-attacks, and phishing techniques. He conducted a hands-on demonstration to assist students in enabling two-step verification on their WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook accounts, emphasizing the importance of securing digital identities. He also shared real-life examples of cybercrime cases he has encountered and addressed, which helped students connect theory to practice.
He further stressed the importance of being vigilant while using PCs, laptops, and mobile devices and accessing the internet, and motivated students to become proactive in promoting cyber awareness among their peers. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in the Q&A session, raising pertinent questions, and receiving practical, solution-oriented advice.
A total of 26 students benefited from this informative and impactful workshop. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Supriya S. Surve, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Phatak for his valuable contribution and to the students for their enthusiastic participation.
