FAMT arranged an Industrial Visit to Kuwarbaon Transmission Substation, Ratnagiri on 12th April 2023 for the students of final-year Electrical Engineering. A total of 25 students and 02 faculty members participated in this visit.
It is a transmission substation having 75 MVA capacity and 110/33KV substation. Initially, Shri Ashutosh Tambe, MSETCL Engineer (Alumnus of FAMT) explained the SLD of the entire station through an interactive session. Various components of the substation, ratings, and usage were discussed in detail. Then students were divided into two groups. One of the groups, which was led by Shri Omkar Mayekar, MSETCL Engineer visited the switchyard of the substation. The actual locations, mechanisms, operation procedures etc of different substation equipment were studied. Students studied power transformers and their different ratings, SF6 breakers, OLTC, Field controls, cooling and protection of transformers. The other group which was led by Shri Ashutosh Tambe visited the control room. The students understood the topics like distance protection, differential protection, REF, O/C and E/F, associated protection relays, their operation, the Control mechanism of the substation, batteries, battery charging system and monitoring system. The students raised many questions related to the functioning of the system which was explained in depth by both officers. The visit ended with a vote of thanks. Prof. M N Tagare expressed gratitude to Shri Ashutosh Tambe for planning the entire visit. Similarly, he thanked Shri Omkar for his kind cooperation and knowledge sharing. Overall, students expressed their satisfaction with the visit.
