The objective of the Women Development Cell is to promote the general well-being of female students and staff at Finolex Academy of Management and Technology (FAMT). It also addresses concerns about gender discrimination and recommends measures and policies for gender equality.
In this context, the Women Development Cell of FAMT organized a seminar on “Legal Awareness for today’s Woman” on 20th March 2023, for the students of FAMT. The objective of the program was to explain the importance of legal literacy to today’s women and also to brief the students about what the laws offer to them.
The seminar was inaugurated by felicitating Adv. Sandhya Sukhtankar Madam with a sapling and with the autobiography of our Founder President Late Shri. Pralhad P. Chhabria Sir and our college diary as a token of appreciation.
The resource person for the seminar was one of the renowned and eminent advocates from Ratnagiri, Mrs Sandhya Sukhatankar Madam. She is working as the Chairman of the Ratnagiri District Local Complaint Committee against sexual harassment of women in the workplace and is a Member of Ratnagiri District Women and Children Advisory Committee. She is a resource person for Women Empowerment appointed by the National Commission for Women and NALSA(Legal Aid Committee of the Hon’ble Supreme Court ). She was a member of the Juvenile Justice Board, Ratnagiri district from the year 2009 to 2018. She is the 1st Lady Vice Chairman of Ratnagiri Advocates Bar Association.
The seminar started with various legal provisions and acts introduced by the government to prevent violence in society against women. She explained the various Domestic Violence Acts, shared household acts, and live in the relationship acts in a very precise but simple manner. She narrated day-to-day life examples, related to the legal right of a woman in a short story form. Also, she explained the laws against sexual harassment in society. Sukhatankar Madam also explained one important thing, the legal laws are for protection against violence and not for taking advantage of it in any case, by imposing false allegations on anyone. Overall her session was very enlighting and informative as it was related to legal rights. The resource person threw light on every aspect of Legal rights related to women and even men. So on a part of the audience, it was also a session on sensitization to gender equality.
Lastly, the session ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Vrishali Nimbalkar Madam (Head of CSE Department and WDC member). She expressed her gratitude to our Principal Dr Kaushal Prasad Sir, for his support in the conduction of the programme and also special thanks to the girl students co-ordinator Ms Avnee Athavale, and Ms Sanika Gajane.
