Industrial Visit to M/s Bharat Electricals

An Industrial Visit was arranged for B.E. Electrical students to M/s Bharat Electricals, Ratnagiri on Saturday, 22nd February 2020. M/s Bharat Electricals is a transformer manufacturing /repair company which handles the transformers up to 1MVA.

The Electrical Engineering students study the design of the transformer in the subject of Electrical Machines II. To understand the different concepts better, an industrial visit to a transformer company was organized. In this visit, all parts of the transformer, CT and PT, their construction and assembly were explained to the students. HV and LV coil winding machine and its process, ovening process to improve insulation resistance were demonstrated. Use of megger to measure insulation resistance between phases, phase to earth, HV and LV was shown to the students. Various materials like a copper conductor, iron laminations, bushings, and breather were studied. The offload tap changer and its operation were demonstrated. Aspects of cooling of the transformer were discussed. Various questions related to the design of the transformer were addressed during the discussion.

A total of 41 students visited the workshop. Prof. M.N. Tagare arranged the visit. Prof. S.S. Wamane assisted him.
